Ben and Mark turn 30
Last night, Natalie and I celebrated the 30th birthdays of good friends Ben Lin and Mark Hanasono. They wanted to have a big shindig for their 30th, so they wisely decided to invite all their friends to Lucky Strike Lanes in Hollywood, which is kind of a strange combination of bar, lounge, and neon bowling alley. I say it was a wise decision, because there was ample room for the 40 or so people who came out to party with us, and it’s one of the few places in Los Angeles that doesn’t have a cover charge on Saturday night. Happy birthday, guys! A good time was had by all. Here’s a few pics from the evening. (These pics are from the Canon S50 I recently purchased. Although it takes pretty noisy photos, I’ve decided to keep it, because I’m getting decent results from using a noise reduction action I purchased from Fred Miranda. The algorithm is actually designed for the 10D, but I find it works fine on S50 images. Since I almost never use it on 10D images, due to their being usually clean enough that using noise reduction isn’t worth the cost in sharpness, it’s good to get some use out of the action.)

![]() On the way home, Natalie and I were hungry, so we stopped at Lucky Boy, which is about the only place in Pasadena open after midnight. I accidentally ordered a LARGE chili fries which turned out to be about 5 pounds of heart attack waiting to happen. Nothing hits the spot like a big helping of greasy food after a night of drinking, though. |

That bowling alley scares me. But I think i’d actually start dancing around like a big goof if I ever went to such a place… I’ve got a certain affinity for disco ya know…
